Patricia Drummond holds a BFA in Studio Art with a concentration Photography and a minor in Art History from Converse College, as well as, an MFA in Studio Art with a concentration in Photography from James Madison University. Drummond was born in Ohio, and has spent numerous years in both South Carolina and Ohio. She currently resides in North Carolina where she is an Instructor of Visual Arts at Guilford Technical Community College.
Drummond actively pursues photo history, alternative processes and book arts in her studio practice and is currently researching the history, technical processes and social interactions relating to vernacular photography. Her work examines the synergy between the multiple interactions had with everyday photography. She observes in her work a continued inter-dependency between the captured image and the human need to preserve; a commentary on the exchange of energies, and an inquiry into the synergy between photography and people. It is this synergy between the act of creating vernacular photography, the photograph in its many forms and the interaction in all stages of the photograph's existence, which she explores.
